14th C War Hat
The war hat, with basic stylistic changes, remained popular for hundreds of years with both ordinary soldiers
and even knightly classes. It offered excellent visibility and hearing and the wide brim offered good
protection against slashing blows and missiles, especially when facing an opponent on higher ground, such as
castle walls or stairways.
This relatively simple version, with riveted brim and slight rearward peak, was popular in the 14th C.
Shown with optional rolled brim edge and chinstrap.
